Before we restart full scale productions next year, Duston Players are putting on a more intimate production for Christmas this year, in the form of a rehearsed reading of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” accompanied by an authentic Victorian magic lantern slide show, and we need seven actors to help bring life to the dialogue of the many characters.
The plan is to have one actor reading Scrooge’s lines throughout, with six other actors (three male, three female) reading all the other characters. You wouldn’t have to learn the lines, and it won’t be fully acted, but will instead have the flavour of an evening at Dickens’ house with a group of his friends reading different parts.
The actors could be any age, but apart from Scrooge (who has a little over 100 lines) the characters are split as follows, all with around 30 – 40 lines to read:
Male Actor 1: Fred (Scrooge’s nephew); Young Scrooge; Peter; Businessman 3; Boy
Male Actor 2: Bob Cratchit; Jacob Marley; Topper
Male Actor 3: Ghost of Christmas Present; Old Joe; Fezziwig; Businessman 1
Female Actor 1: Ghost of Christmas Past; Mrs Cratchit
Female Actor 2: Fred’s wife; Mrs Dilber; Belle; Martha; Lady 2; Tiny Tim
Female Actor 3: Laundress; Sister; Maid; Businessman 2; Lady 1; Young Cratchits
The auditions will take place on Thursday the 4th November at 7:30pm at 4 High Street, Kislingbury. Auditions pieces can be downloaded below.
